Who we are:  MonadnockTango is a "family affair"....

randy avis, a project manager and building contractor by day (some days, anyway), came to argentine tango from contradancing, which he still finds time to enjoy occasionally -- in between camping out, full moon canoe trips, and hiking, with a little sacred circle dance thrown in for good measure....randy has been known to travel throughout northern new england, from boston (MA) to burlington (VT), chasing tango classes, workshops, private lessons, with such illustrious teachers as Hsueh-tze Lee, Gustavo Benzecry-Sabá & María Olivera, and Michale Young & Beatrix Satzinger...with vanessa amsbury, his long-time best friend and dance partner, randy has taken a leading role (literally and figuratively) in keeping tango growing in SW NH....he and vanessa are teaching on wednesday nights at the mariposa museum, and will continue to hold "second saturday" monthly milongas at the PUUChurch parish hall.....
questions?  contact randy at: avisconstruction.randy@gmail.com

vanessa amsbury comes to argentine tango from cotradance and salsa, bringing her latin heritage along as a bonus....she has studied argentine tango on and off for the last five or six years, studying with various instructors, and practicing with randy avis whenever possible, and is excited about the opportunity to assist in teaching and holding milongas in her hometown, peterborough NH...

judith schwartz...since november 2000, judith has studied the dance, music, and culture of argentine tango from renowned professionals in north america and buenos aires...co-founder of the tango community in brattleboro, VT, she now organizes classes, milongas, and special events for MonadnockTango in SWNH from april through october each year...judith is also available for private lessons and special workshops, and is a popular DJ at other milongas in the region....judith's classes are focused on fundamental vocabulary and skills, improvisation, musicality, communication and connection, so that students develope their own ability to have "tango conversations" with partners from all over the world....from october thru april, judith continues to study and dance argentine tango in buenos aires, argentina......judith can be reached almost anytime (& almost anywhere) at: judithanh@gmail.com

steve voorhees has been dancing and playing music all his life (or at least as far back as he can easily remember!)...his interest in argentine tango preceded his first series of lessons early in 2001, and he subsequently was a key player in all aspects of BrAATS, from its inception in October 2001, through the six+ years of ongoing and special activities and events...steve regularly crosses the river to provide high-quality sound engineering (and often lattes, too!) for monadnock region milongas and has been known to turn up on short notice notice to help with a class, practice or special event...steve is at:  diffdrum4@gmail.com

iris piedmont-fleischmann began dancing argentine tango in february 2002 and did not miss a class, workshop, milonga or special event for three or four years...she was an active BrAATS board member, and president of the board for over two years...iris is slowly (on purpose) finishing her bachelor's degree in political science at Keene State College, is in charge of shipping (fulfillment) for WS Badger, inc and enjoys tennis, cooking, political activism,  helping out at Green Energy Options,  her family's solar technology store in keene (NH), working with the Emerson Brook Sustainability Project,  and hanging out at home and in the garden, with james and the cat  :)

scott tilton wrestled in high school, which turned out to be a useful skill for argentine tango...he has a great embrace and reallly  knows where his partner is at all times...scott just got a new job in sales for comcast, and will probably move somewhere more towards manchester, but not too far away to dance with us in SW NH...in addition to tango, scott now plays pool and rugby, the latter sport leaving him occasionally too battered and sore to dance...scott also is a former member of the BrAATS board of directors, and is always ready to promote argentine tango by dancing in the streets, a local park, or by pitching in with special workshops, particularly for high school and college groups -- more young people in tango, please!!  if you are needing to find scott, he can be reached at:  stilto@gmail.com

ellie mutchler came to tango with no previous dance experience at all, and has taken tango by storm....a furniture designer by training and career choice, "el" spent an amazing internship in london, from which point she hopped all over europe, dancing in italy, copenhagen, and other tango hot spots before heading to buenos aires, where she studied and danced as intensively as humanly possible for three months....after helping keep wednesday night practice alive in peterborough through the winter of 2008-09, el bailed for berlin, where she has been dancing her little toes off with a passion!!  for more about tango in europe, contact ellie at:  elliemutchler@gmail.com

sharon oliver is also a multi-modality dancer, coming to argentine tango in july 2006, with a background in contradance as well as scandinavian turning dances....former owner/operator/creator of Granite Lake Pottery, sharon has recently focused on healing energy therapy, and clearing out her work and life and house, to see what comes next!  meanwhile, she keeps dancing tango whenever and wherever she can  :)

chris leake, a recent argentine tango addict, is MonadnockTango's resident techno-geek  :)  chris operates a small audio engineering company and also does freelance work involving computer, network and communications system design and installation, as well as interior design and drafting..."CJ" is also the Squire of the Jack in the Green Morris Men, contradances (when he's not busy with tango or Morris practice!), is an avid motorcyclist, brews home-crafted ale, is a volunteer firefighter/EMT for the Town of Nelson (NH), and has been a member of the Monadnock Folklore Society board of directors since early in 2008...thanks for helping set up this website, chris!!
